Baby brain facts

In college I took tons of anatomy and other science courses, and the brain was always a fascinating topic. Here are some baby brain facts you need to know:

baby brainAt birth your baby already has all her neurons (brain cells) she’s ever going to have.

Your baby’s brain starts to go into overdrive when she’s six months old and stays that way until she’s about 10 years old. During this time her logic and forethought areas of the brain are building like mad, eating up more than twice as much energy as your adult logic and forethought brain areas are.

Your brain does work on the use it or lose it principal. This isn’t a mere theory. Frequently used areas of the brain develop and remain high functioning, and lesser used areas are less developed and may even be discarded. This is why well rounded experiences are so important for your baby.

Research shows that babies who are frequently talked to learn about 300+ more words by the age of two than babies who have mamas who don’t talk to them much.

Moral: Your baby’s brain is a huge deal from birth onward; make sure your baby receives all the interactions and stimulation necessary to develop her brain positively.
