Moderate noise is bad for babies

We all know not to rock out to extra loud music when our baby is nearby, but research shows that even moderate noise can cause problems.

Research from the University of Maryland shows that a baby’s language development can be affected negatively by even moderate noise, such as the type you’d normally find in a daycare or household with older kids. Some of this research shows that even if you’re talking loud enough, over the noise, for an adult to hear, your baby may not be able to clearly make out your words.

Since we can’t stop the world’s noise, the best thing to do is to make sure you spend quiet time each day with your baby. During your quiet times is the perfect time to read to and talk with your baby. In a noise-free area, she’ll be able to make out your words clearly, which will help her develop her own language skills.
