Most experts seem to agree that television won’t hurt your little one, so long as you follow some basic viewing rules.

Don’t let screen time take over face time. Babies need plenty of one-on-one time with you in order to develop socially and to boost brain power.

If your baby’s not interested in the TV turn it off. Recent studies show that background noise, even at low levels can affect your baby’s hearing and stunt language development.

Balance and moderation are key: TV like every other thing in your baby’s world is a resource. But just like you wouldn’t force your baby to sit and listen to books all day (I hope) you shouldn’t let her watch TV all day. Babies need all sorts of stimulation. Books, block play, puppets, and outside time are all important. If you include everything, a little TV is fine.
