Zen mama - mindful meditations for relaxation

Mindful meditation doesn’t have to involve odd poses or chanting - but it can help you relax, and we know that all mamas can use a little more of that.

You can practice mindful meditation anywhere, anytime. I actually like washing dishes by hand (no, really) because it’s relaxing for me. I use the time to think, work out issues in my head, and just be calm. With the water running, and no one bugging me, I can get a lot of thinking in.

All basic mindful meditation is, is focusing on the here and now; being present, slowing down, and thinking about calm ways to deal with our busy lives. Mindful mediations done throughout a day, have been shown to lower stress and anxiety, while keeping you active in problem solving.

Practicing mindful meditation is very simple. The best time to start is when you’re already doing the mundane - such as folding laundry, commuting to work, or like me washing dishes. Use that time not to fret over time wasted in the commute or doing boring chores, but instead think of it as time gained to be alone and think. Don’t assume you have to rush everywhere, try to breathe slowly and deeper. Another good time to practice feeling relaxed is before popping out of bed each day. Take 10 minutes to consider your day, and how it’s going to flow. It’s useful to try and start your day off calm.

Despite the rushed pace of life, mindful meditations can make your whole world feel smoother and happier.
