I think a changing table is one of those must-have baby products. I didn’t when my son was born, I thought they were a waste of money, but I’m telling you, your back will really thank you if you get a nice changing table.
When choosing a changing table, look for the following features…
A sturdy table with removable guard rails - removable because you won’t use a changing table forever, but with removable rails, you can also use it as a dresser.
Try to get a non-folding table, but if you do buy a changing table that folds, make sure it’s always securely open when in use and that it has a super strong locking mechanism so one, it stays open, and two, your baby can’t mess with it.
Get a table with a wide base and/or strong wider legs to prevent your baby from pulling it over.
Get a table with storage (drawers, baskets, etc) OR Place storage right next to the table. You should never walk away from a changing table while your baby is on it, so it’s smart to have all your supplies on hand.
Pick a table cover or changing mat that’s easy to clean or that has a removable washable cover.
Your changing table should have a safety belt, and you should always use it.
Coming up later, some nice changing table options and if you do decide to go sans table, you’re in luck, because we’ll also see some alternative options later today.
