Yesterday we looked at the cons of being a work-at-home mama. Today some pros.

Schedules are less important: Not all schedules; like I do need concentrated weekend work time. But during the week, Cedar and I are free to do mostly whatever we want. If we feel like laying around all day we can. If we want to jaunt off to the zoo or go hiking on the spur of the moment, nothing but the weather slows us down. We can even take a three day trip to the beach, and since all I need to work is a computer, we’re good to go.

Sick days aren’t as tough: If Cedar is sick I don’t have to scramble to find help, I’m home to take care of him. If I’m sick I almost never have to call in, normally, I’m not too sick to blog. Once in a while, but overall, sick days are simpler.

No worries about child care:  I have no stress about my son’s care giver. I know who he’s with (me). I know he’s safe, well-fed, and not exposed to things I don’t agree with.

Less outgoing costs: I don’t have transportation costs, work wardrobe costs, child care costs, work lunch costs, or any of the other costs that go along with working outside of the home.

No dealing with lame employers: Not in person anyhow. Some clients are always harder than others, but there’s something nice about not having to see them in person. Also, since I don’t just work for one client, if one does suck, I’m not stuck. I know my work is not dependent on one individual or one company.

The best thing: I get to hang out with Cedar. I didn’t have him to simply hand him over to other people to raise. I don’t miss any of the fun things he does or says. I know him very well. I don’t just see snippets of him in the evenings. This is the major bonus of being a work-at-home mama. I always think to myself how lucky I am to get to spend so much time with such a creative, fun, and wonderful little person.
